Teochew Festival 2016 @ Sands Expo and Convention - Teochew Food Street

Last Monday, I went to the Teochew Festival held at Marina Bay Sands Expo and Convention Centre with my parents and grandmother.  We bought our ticket from Ding Tai Fung at a price of $9 per ticket and they gave us a free recipe book.

Do remember to use the ticket to get a rebate of $3 off from the food you are buying from the food Zone (美食区) and Teochew Delicacy Zone. In addition, visitors can also enjoy full day parking at Marina Bay Sands at only $8 on weekdays.

To encourage cashless transactions, only NETS payment is accepted at the fair.

The food street features 20 vendors comprising of homegrown Teochew eateries as well as food vendors from Shantou and Chaozhou, China.

My mum saw an elderly man with 3 tickets in his pocket while he was paying for his oyster omelette and she told him that he could use the tickets to get discount.  He wasn't aware and thanked my mum for telling him.  3 tickets could get him a rebate of $3 x 3 off from the total cost which means that his oyster omelette cost only $1!  :)  The stall vendor will take the tickets away from you at your first redemption so you cannot use it for another time.

Fried oyster omelette ($10), the stall with the longest queue.  The oyster omelette was crispy and had many small oysters in it.  It went well with the chilli.  Fish sauce was provided too.  Heard that the traditional teochew way of eating the oyster omelette is to dip it in the fish sauce.

Teochew Char Kway Teow ($5)

Surprisely, a meatless char kuay teow dish could taste so good!  I would recommend this dish as it had great "wok hei"!  This teochew char kuay teow is not the black ones that we normally have.  Instead, it resembles more like Penang Char Koay Teow with its white appearance, but with the prawns/egg replaced with Cai Po and diced kailan vegetables.

Braised Duck rice ($10/ set).  If you are looking for a substantial meal, you may want to order this.  I was lucky to get the big drumstick  The duck meat was tender and well-braised.  Even my grandmother had all praises for it.

These kuehs were quite hard so we didn't really like it.  2 pieces for $3.

Other kueh...

Dad bought two big popiah at $5 each.  The popiah had some minced meat in it too.  As we were all very full, I took a small piece and tabao the rest back.
